Legal Van

The Granvill T. Woods School, PS 335, has an exciting opportunity to host the New York Legal Assistance Group (nylag.org) to provide mobile legal advice on May 13th, 2016. The van will be at the school from 9AM-2PM. Created through a partnership between NYLAG and the New York State Courts Access to Justice Program, with initial funding from the David Berg Foundation, the Mobile Legal Help Center is the country’s first-ever free legal services office and courtroom on wheels. Attorneys provide counseling, advice, and direct representation without leaving the vehicle. A video link with the courts enables access to judges for emergency hearings, including domestic violence and eviction cases.
Through the Mobile Legal Help Center, low-income New Yorkers in need of legal help can overcome obstacles such as geographic isolation, health and mobility issues, and childcare concerns. This event is open to all community members.
